While I was practing in Normanton I had reffered a patient to bowel surgeons because he had a bowel problem.He got an appointment to see the consultant bowel surgeon in Pontefract General Infirmary in few weeks.The consultant surgeon did the biopsy of his bowels and told him that he had bowel cancer and will die in one year.So the patient went home and prepaed for his death.Firstly he made a will for his wife and children. Then he redecorated his house so that his wife will not have to decorated it again.Then he went to the undertakers and paid for his funeral. He evan arranged how he want to be creamated and also organised the church for his own funeral services.He did everything he needed to do before he die.But he goes on living and after a year his friends and neighbours keep saying " You are suppose to die now,why are you still here". So he came to see me and said that he is very embarassed to go on living when he is supposed to die and everyboby is complaining becouse he not dead.So I send him back to see the bowel surgeon.And he found out it was the wrong biopsy result and it was meant for another patient he was not suppose to die from the beginning.So he sue the consultant for the cost of his preparation to die.

Nobody lives forever. Even Michael Jackson who once was quoted to have said, " I want to live forever " kicked the bucket notwithstanding all the millions he had in his bank account.

It is important not to say definite date of death to any patient in this case the surgeon is guilty of misinforming the paitient on wrong biopsy results.
