I was told an interesting story by a former patient who now lives in Torquay. He was waiting in the queue at reception and overheard a man asking if he could see a doctor.
At the time there was no appointments system and people just turned up. My former senior partner (Dr. S.) and a younger doctor (Dr. Q.) were the two doctors at the practice in those days. Both came from India but their approach to patients was totally different. The younger doctor clearly was favourite as can be confirmed by the conversation that was reported to me:
Patient: "Is Dr. Q. on tonight?"
Receptionist: "No, it's Dr. S."
Patient: "Oh bloody 'ell!"
Yet another example of the outspoken Yorkshireman who made it clear he did not want to see the senior partner at the practice. He was not alone.
