Flu jabs

Hi folks every year just before the flu season GPs have to organise flu vaccintions for patients who are elderly or suffer from chronic illness. A patient of mine came to see me because he was worried about his 18 year old daughter who suffers from asthma and was refusing to have the flu vaccination. I advised him to make an appointment for his daughter to see me and reassured him that I would try to persuade her that it was in her best interests to have the flu vaccination. He made the appointment as advised.

The following day the girl arrived at my surgery to see me. I explained to her that because she suffers from asthma it is very important that she be given the vaccination to prevent her from getting flu. She accepted my advice and agreed to have the jab. I told her to get herself ready while I prepared the vaccine.

When I returned to the consultation room I was shocked and somewhat embarrassed to see the girl lying on the couch naked. I said: "I am only going to give you an injection in your arm, there was no need for you to undress." The girl replied: " Aren't you going to inject it in my flu?" as she pointed her finger at her private parts. I told her to get dressed. I later gave her the injection in the arm.

Her comment had left me completely confused until I found out that the word "flu" was used by locals to describe the femail private parts. The moral is that it is essential to explain to a patient exactly what is involved with a particular procedure before going ahead with it.

  1. She finally did get the jab, I mean the 'flu jab, didn't she?
    Come, come, be honest.
